Every sports season presents it’s own unique set of challenges both to coaches and players alike but there is a very unique type of challenge that only presents itself during the spring sports season.

That challenge would be the temporary loss of players due to spring break trips and vacations. Of course not all players enter into the time honored tradition of spring break trips and with certain individuals taking to vacations and such, it leaves teams at a temporary disadvantage and coaches with a unique challenge through practices and early season meets.

Raccoon Valley Radio caught up with ACGC head boys track and field coach Tyler Mosbach to get his take on spring break absences and what he and his team do to combat any absences.

“What we try to do this year is work around that as much as we can. Obviously to us track and field is the most important thing so trying to make that a priority and when they can’t be there, then giving them make up workouts and things like that. We had Jacob do some work and stuff while he was on vacation so whenever we can get those make up workouts in just to make sure they’re continuing to work even when they’re not at practice is very important,” stated coach Mosbach.

It is exactly one week away before coach Mosbach and the Charger boys track team will first arrive onto the competitive scene with their first meet March 28th in Audubon. There they will be taking on a 14 team field which includes host Audubon, a team that took second overall as a team in last year’s state tournament in 1A.
