Fire Chief Chris Hinds tells Raccoon Valley Radio they responded to the fire at 1619 5th Street at 6:43am. When they arrived on scene, Hinds points out that the garage had almost burned to the ground. As the garage walls collapsed, flames caught part of a privacy fence on fire to the north, which was owned by Kim Eiteman. Firefighters battled the blaze for about 90 minutes.
The two-vehicle garage had various small items in it and it is considered to be a total loss. No one was hurt in the incident and no one was in the garage at the time of the fire. The property is owned by Dan Goodman. Hinds says since the garage was destroyed, they probably won’t be able to identify a cause. He adds that he believes the fire was accidental.
The Perry Police Department assisted at the scene.
