The school board approved the proposed calendar at their meeting Monday. Superintendent Lynn Ubben says the schedule will look pretty similar.
“Well we like to start on a Wednesday and that’s a big thing for them and I think it’s because of the younger kids. I know it’s a long week, especially for a kindergarten student or a first grader. And they still like to have a spring break. You know, that’s always something district’s talk about, do we need spring break or do we just do a Thursday, Friday, Monday at Easter. So our calendar is pretty much the same as last year, very similar, just bumping the dates back.”
Though the District measures classroom time by hours instead of days, Ubben says they do still plan for the year based on the required number of days. She says Perry has a longer school day than many other districts, which helps if there is time to make up for weather and other cancellations.
The next school year will begin on August 23rd and the year is scheduled to end May 25, 2018.
