image001 (2)Perry Schools Superintendent Lynn Ubben will soon end her administrative career in Perry.

Ubben is currently in her eighth year in the local district and her 41st year in education.  She says the decision to retire was a hard one.

“It was just kind of a tough thing but I thought well I do have a mom and a mother-in-law that are still healthy and can do some things and I have some grand kids that are within a half an hour, and a son that is in the North Liberty area, about two hours away.  I thought, you know it’s probably time to take some time to see friends and family and maybe change my focus a little bit.”

Ubben says she and her husband plan to stay in Perry and she will still be there to cheer on the Bluejays because it’s something she really enjoys.  As for the future of the district, Ubben says it’s too early to tell who her predecessor may be.

“I don’t think they have any particular thing in mind.  They’re going to probably meet with someone and kind of plot it out and see what they’re going to do.  It’s always good to take some time and do a good search, look for candidates.  You know, each superintendent, just like principals and others, is usually very different and that’s a good thing… we have good Board members.  They’ll do a great job.  I know that they will make sure they pick the best candidate that meets the needs of our district.”

Superintendent positions are year-round.  Ubben’s last day working in Perry will be June 30th.
