20170214_145606Perry junior Drew Levan’s buzzer beating three point shot powered Perry past Greene County Tuesday night 65-62 in a thrilling high school basketball game.   Greene County senior Trey Tucker tied the game at 62 with a driving layup with 8 seconds to go.  Following a Perry timeout, Rashon Ivory drove the length of the court and found Levan planted on the left arc where he let it fly with a second to go and sent the large Perry crowd into a frenzy.

“Rashon is such a good playmaker,” Levan added.  “I told him I would be ready for the pass and wouldn’t let him down.  We actually had tried it earlier in the game but it went to the other side somehow.  It felt really good when I let it go from the finger tips so I had a feeling it might go in.”

Levan was immediately ambushed by his team and jumped on in a big celebration pile.

“I remember seeing it swish through and then all my team jumping on me and giving me high fives.  It was a great feeling.”

Levan finished with 6 points while Janier Puente provided 21.  Puente was a big reason for Perry surge in the third quarter.  After being held to 3 points in the first half, the senior power forward went off for 16 points in the 3rd quarter alone erasing a Greene County halftime lead.

Tucker, who entered the game Class 3A’s leading scorer, finished with a  career high 43 points, which ties a Greene County school record.

Perry closes out the regular season 11-9 while Greene County finishes 14-7.  Perry will battle Gilbert Monday in the opening round of District play.
