The 2016-17 basketball season came to an abrupt close last night for the ADM Lady Tiger basketball team in round one of the Iowa high school basketball postseason laying host to the Harlan Cyclones.

ADM had the advantage of a home contest for the second straight year to start postseason play, but unfortunately, a third quarter scoring surge by the Lady Cyclones would give Harlan just enough of a lead which they retained at the end of four quarters and defeating ADM 54-49.

ADM actually held a lead for the vast majority of the game starting out with a 13-9 first quarter lead followed by a 24-17 lead at the half. The big story line in the first half was Harlan’s inability to connect from beyond the arc while ADM dominated off the glass especially in the second quarter where they hauled in 10 of their 14 first half rebounds. The second half would almost witness a complete shift in scoring as Harlan opened up the third by connecting on three of their first three point shots taken in the second half and trimmed a 7 point halftime deficit into a four point lead midway through the third quarter. The final frame would open up showing ADM down 40-35 and while they tied the game up twice in the fourth quarter, they could never regain their first half lead and they would end up falling for the sixth consecutive game against Harlan.

The ineffectiveness that Harlan had from beyond the arc through the first two quarters, transferred over to ADM  in the final two quarters where they compiled 15 three point attempts and connecting on just two.

In fitting fashion, ADM was led by their leading scorer all season in Sydney Bertman who ended her illustrious four year campaign as a Lady Tiger with 16 points against the Lady Cyclones. She also ended the night with another double figure game crashing the boards for 12 rebounds. Abbie Hlas sat right behind Bertman with 11 points on the night. Junior Nicole Lange led Harlan with 13 points.

Harlan will now move on to round two of the postseason and they will be traveling to Huxley on Saturday to take on another RRC opponent in the Ballard Bombers. ADM on the other hand will see their 2016-17 campaign come to a close ending the year with a record of 8-14. They graduate 4 seniors in Sydney Bertman, Allie Cook, Lauren Mikkelson, and Kylee Luther.
