The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

The Board acknowledged the initial contract proposal from the Greene County Education Association. The teacher’s union is requesting a 2.62 percent total package increase, due to insurance rates increasing by 9.77 percent. The School Board’s negotiation committee will review the proposal and make a counter offer.

The Board then approved the 2017-18 school calendar as presented, an additional early retirement request from Dale Smith for 22 years of service, purchasing 210 Google Chromebooks for $55,000 and security measures to the doors at the elementary school for $22,000 with funds from sales tax and physical plant and equipment levy.

Additionally, the School Board approved a fundraiser request, a sharing agreement with Curriculum Director Karen Sandberg with the Mid-Iowa School Improvement Consortium and a sharing agreement with Glidden-Ralston with the middle school band instructor.

Finally, the School Board gave Superintendent Tim Christensen authorization to get quotes for advertising positive messages and good things happening in the district.
