dallas-county3The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

At the meeting, a resident addressed the Board asking questions about the tax impact of the proposed bond referendum for a new law enforcement center.  She asked for clarification on a few items as far as how much she will be taxed for her agricultural property and how the levy rate will change after a few years when the courthouse bonds are paid off.

Payroll change notices for the conservation department, roads department and sheriff’s office.

Four members were appointed to the General Election Review Commission.  Commissioner of Elections Julia Helm suggested members from the special precinct board and the Republican and Democratic parties.

An out of state travel request for County Engineer Al Miller was then approved so he can attend the National Association of County Engineers conference in Cincinnati, Ohio in April.  The total cost estimate for the trip is around $1,600.  A Trail King Tendem Axle Trailer purchase was approved for the roads department in the amount of $56,000 after trade-in of an old piece of equipment. A day cab truck was also approved in the amount of $103,360.

An agricultural tax credit appeal from Michael Losee of Ankeny was then heard.  The property owner has two parcels that total 16.23 acres and he wants the Board to reconsider their decision to rescind the tax credit as the land is still actively farmed together as a unit. A hearing on the matter was set for Tuesday, March 7th.

The Board then discussed proposed annexation of property into the City of Adel.  The parcel of land in question is around 1,100 acres and the property owner looks to voluntarily annex the property into the city limits of Adel. The Board will ask questions to the City and research legal counsel on the issue.

A North Raccoon River Watershed Management Coalition 28E agreement was then discussed.  Supervisor Mark Hanson said he feels it would be ridiculous for the County to not be part of the Coalition considering they are already part of the south and the middle Raccoon River Watershed Management authorities.  The Board unanimously approved the agreement to join the Coalition.

AJ Wright was appointed to the Van Meter Township Board of Trustees.
