Resized952017022495033206We have new information about an overnight fire that destroyed a house in Perry.

The Perry and Woodward Fire departments, along with the Perry Police Department, Dallas County Ambulance and the Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded to the structure fire just after 8pm Thursday night at 1402 Evelyn Street.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Eiteman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that when he arrived on scene, the fire was contained to the north side of the house and near a car port. Within ten minutes, the fire quickly spread to engulf the entire house. There were nine family members in the house at the time of the fire and everyone got out safely. There were minor injuries to two individuals and they were treated at the scene and later taken by private vehicle to Dallas County Hospital.Resized952017022495033233

Eiteman says they battled the blaze for over eight hours and he witnessed the strangest weather elements he’s ever seen in his 20-plus with the department. There was thunder, lighting, pea to marble size hail and snow.

No one was hurt in the incident and the house is a total loss. A cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Eiteman, who is also the fire investigator, doesn’t suspect foul play at this time.

According to the Dallas County Assessor’s real estate website, the home is owned by Rodney Metzler and Connie Hay.
