Class 2A quarterfinals are completed with the second consolation round coming up at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines as the State Wrestling Tournament continues. Six area 2A wrestlers were in action in this round with two from Perry, two from ADM, one from Winterset, and one from Woodward-Granger.

The round started with a 5-4 victory by ADM sophomore Andrew Flora, ranked seventh at 106, over number two Jack Thomsen of Union (La Porte City). Flora broke a 3-3 tie with a takedown at time expired in the second period. Flora takes a 47-5 record into the semifinals at 8:45 tonight vs. top ranked Grayson Kesterson (47-1) of Williamsburg.

Perry’s Kaleb Olejniczak (113) lost by fall in 2:45 to third ranked Aden Reeves of Albia as number three handled number four. Olejniczak is 51-5 and drops into the consolation second round.

Zachary Thompson (120) of Perry is in the semifinals for the third time in as many years as the junior won a 9-1 major decision over Sinjin Briggs of Gilbert. Thompson is 50-5 and hopes to improve on sixth places finishes in each of the past two seasons. Thompson meets top ranked top ranked Bryce West (52-1) of Solon, the former Highland of Riverside Class 1A State champion.

The area’s third semifinalist is W-G freshman Cody Fisher, who is now 45-5 after downing Creston/Orient-Macksburg senior Jackson Mikkelson. Fisher has been on a big-time post season roll and he hopes to continue the momentum tonight int he semifinals vs. Sam Moore of Mount Vernon (30-6).

The other two wrestlers from the area that lost in the quarterfinals are ADM sophomore Nolan Harsh at 138 lbs., and Winterset senior Justin Smith at 145. Both will be in the second consolation round this afternoon. Harsh lost 6-0 to Skyler Noftsger of Ballard (Huxley) to fall to 35-9, while Smith is 36-11 after getting pinned in 1:14 by Mitchel Swank of Creston/Orient-Macksburg.

Bryce Hatten (106) Winterset, Zach Stewart (132) Perry, Tanner Vermaas (182) W-G, and Hunter Ruth (220) Greene County are also in this afternoon’s consolation second round, set to begin sometime after 4:30 p.m.
