It was Pink Out Night for Guthrie County Relay For Life last night as both West Central Valley Wildcat basketball teams welcomed in the ACGC Chargers. Both Wildcat teams were in the hunt to earn a win respective season series against the Chargers but it would be the Lady Wildcats to come away with the lone victory 45-26 while the Wildcat boys squad faltered early loosing 56-48.

The Lady Wildcats notched their 6th win on the season thanks to a fast start and a hot finish. The big story line on the night was the Lady Wildcat defense which held ACGC without a double digit scoring quarter the entire game. West Central Valley had one of their better first quarters of the season jumping out to an 18-8 lead after one quarter. The Lady Wildcats went into the half up 25-11 and they kept it up in the second half with a 33-18 lead after three and a 12 point fourth quarter to seal the deal. Kristin Culp led the way on the score sheet posting up 14 points on the night.

The Wildcat boys were looking to match the outcome of the girls game but fell into an offensive rut early with just 7 first quarter points trailing after one quarter 13-7. The Wildcats would storm back in the second quarter with 14 points, however that would be dwarfed by ACGC’s 20 point second quarter as the Wildcats were down at the half 33-21. The second half saw a resurgence from the Wildcats taking the third quarter 12-8 but couldn’t manage to overcome the Charger lead despite a 15 point fourth quarter.

The Lady Wildcats earn their 6th overall and 5th conference win while the Wildcat boys now drop to 3-10 overall with a conference mark of 2-9. Next on the docket for the Wildcats will be another home contest Friday as they welcome in Madrid high school. Girls game slated for 6:00 pm with the boys contest to follow at 7:30 pm.
