It was the week finale for the West Central Valley girls and boys basketball teams last night welcoming in conference foe Madrid.

The Lady Wildcats were due to acquire their first series sweep of the season and they came through capitalizing with a 52-45 win. They not only earned their first sweep of the season, but they also earned themselves a winning record inside the conference for the first time all season, now at 6-5. They now keep pace in a topside dominated West Central Activities Conference headlined by Van Meter, Des Moines Christian, and Panorama solidly placing 4th in conference play. The Lady Wildcats improve their overall record to 7-8 on the season.

The boys contest followed suit nicely as the Wildcat boys team snapped their five game loosing streak 64-57. While the outcome may have been a win for the Wildcats, it was an inauspicious start after 12-5 first quarter deficit. The Wildcat boys would respond in a big way in quarter number two erupting for 22 points to put West Central Valley up at the half 27-24. The Wildcats kept their stride going in the third quarter outscoring Madrid 19-13 which gave West Central Valley just enough lead to hold off a 20 point fourth quarter by Madrid to take the win 64-57. West Central Valley improves their conference record to 3-9 with an overall mark of 4-10.

Next up on the docket for the Wildcats will be a road match up this Saturday in Anita taking on CAM high school.
