A look at downtown Jefferson on State Street Monday afternoon

Sunday and Monday’s ice storm kept road crews busy across the state.

Greene County Secondary Roads started their day before 5am Monday applying sand and salt first to the paved county roads and then to all of the gravel roads. County Engineer Wade Weiss says they were able to get all of the roads opened up Monday. Crews did the he routine Tuesday, due to more freezing drizzle and the possibility of the roads refreezing through the overnight.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan was incredibly happy with how well the City streets responded after they were treated. City crews went out around 4am Monday and then as early as 6am Tuesday to re-treat the main roads and alleyways.

But perhaps one of the best stories from Monday was the fact that there weren’t any accidents during the two dangerous rounds of freezing rain during the day. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says they responded to no accidents in the County. He attributes that to people staying home and not traveling when it wasn’t advised.
