Greene County had one of its biggest girls’ basketball scoring quarters of the season on Friday night, but it was a case of too little too late and Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams lost 59-39 in Story City to Roland-Story on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Greene County scored only 17 points in the first three quarters combined, but put 22 on the board in the final frame. The Norsemen raced out to a 25-8 halftime lead and were never seriously challenged.

Junior Laurin Lyons recorded a double-double statistically for the Rams with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kenna Marquardt added eight points with seven each from seniors Hannah Promes and Taylor Wessling. Lyons had seven of Greene County’s eight first half points. The Rams have lost seven games in a row and fell to 3-12 overall and 2-9 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Green County shot free throws well, going 12 of 16 from the stripe.

R-S is now 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the conference. The Norsemen are one of the youngest teams in the conference. Only two of their 59 points came from a senior. Junior Jenna Clark had 15 points with 14 from freshman Kylie Tjernagel, and 10 by freshman Amy Rathmacher. The Norsemen poured in 10 three-point goals, and went 10 of 17 from the foul line.

The Rams host Winterset on Monday in the middle school gym in a make-up non-conferece girl/boy twin bill. Tuesday means a trip to Des Moines to face a Saydel team the Rams beat 49-23 last month. Greene County goes to Jewell to meet South Hamilton on Friday and the Hawks are another team the Rams own a victory against. All those can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 5:45 p.m.
