While old man winter was reaking havoc all across the area, there was no stopping the round two match up between the ADM Tigers and the Winterset Huskies last night in Adel.

The Tiger boys were looking to split the season series against the Huskies and while there was little basketball action around the area, ADM and Winterset made up all the excitement in just one game. Despite being down for the vast majority of the contest, the Tigers would have a surging 4th quarter and ended the game on a Jared Sapp last second three point buzzer beater to defeat Winterset 63-62.

The game started out rather sluggish for the Tigers as despite going 4/8 from the floor they ended the first quarter down 11-17. In oddly similar fashion to their first meeting, ADM would have to storm back in the second quarter which they did cashing in on a 26-20 run to tie the game up at the half 37-37 thanks in large part to 9 straight made free throws from senior Tajen Ross. The big story line in the first half was Wintersets command off the glass out rebounding ADM 17-9 as both teams made their way into the second half. The back and fourth contest that ensued would witness ADM put up a season low 6 third quarter points while Winterset put up 15 points as both teams took to the final quarter 52-43 Huskies. That would lead up to an epic fourth quarter comeback in the final stanza where the Tigers would snag 11 rebounds in the fourth quarter alone, shoot 8/13 from the floor, and cashed in on a game winning 20-10 run to steal the win.

The most critical action came in the final seconds where Winterset’s Justin Henry connected on 2 critical free throws with just 3.3 seconds left giving ADM just one opportunity. In the most thrilling game of the season, while the Tigers had just one second half three point basket, it was perhaps the biggest of them all from Jared Sapp, connecting on a full court pass from Sam McCartney to steal the win.

In another phenomenal scoring night, ADM senior Tajen Ross poured in 24 point to lead the team while Cole Knoll connected on 10 points and a team leading 5 rebounds. Sam McCartney also had a solid shooting night connecting on 10 points.

In thrilling fashion, the Tiger boys squad improves their record to 9-5 overall with a leg up in conference play at 6-3. Now they will welcome in the Perry Blue Jays to town on Friday in another round two conference match up in Adel. The Tiger boys will be game two of the girl/boy double header with game tip off at 7:30 pm and can be heard on K107.9 FM.
