dallas-county-sheriffIn a few months, Dallas County voters will again be asked to vote on a bond referendum to build a new law enforcement center in Adel.

Sheriff Chad Leonard says the $22.9 million bond would be paid back by tax payers over a period of 20 years.

“Basically, according to the County, it comes back to $36 per $100,000 of taxable valuation on somebody’s property.”

Leonard says the tax increase will only be short term.

“My understanding is our current debt will drop off in about three years so we’re asking citizens to help us out for these initial three years.  Your taxes will go up for these first three years but unless Dallas County takes on more debt somewhere in the next three years, it should drop back to where it’s currently at.  Even though the bond referendum is for a 20 year period, you’ll see the increase first three years, current debt will drop off and you’ll be back to less than where you are today, just by a few dollars.”

The special bond referendum election will take place across the County on May 2nd.
