Both ACGC basketball squads were in action weekend style this past Saturday as the Chargers welcomed in Exira-Elk-Horn-Kimbalton to town.

Both Charger teams had solid starts to their games but couldn’t hold up through all four quarters with the Lady Chargers falling 60-47 and the Charger boys dropping 71-33.

The Charger girls squad came out of the gates strong leading at the end of one quarter 15-8 and kept up the pace to lead at the half 32-20. From there it turned into a tale of two halves for the Lady Chargers who watched their 12 point half time lead sliced down to 4 at the end of the third quarter. The dagger that did it in for ACGC was being outscored 23-9 in the fourth quarter alone which highlighted ACGC being outscored 40-15 in the second half. Madison Berger led the scoring charge for ACGC with 15 points followed by Morgan Meacham with 14 points. ACGC now drops their overall record to 3-8 with the loss.

For the boys contest they were searching for their first win on the season and had a very solid first half offensively posting up 22 first half points but it was a mixture of turnovers and defensive woes that led to ACGC down at the half 38-22. As was the case in the girls contest, the Charger boys team was severely limited on offense in the second half connecting for just 11 second half points and being outscored 33-11 in the second half. The big dagger for the boys squad was in the transition and turnover categories allowing 40 points alone off of 18 total turnovers. Colton Sargent spearheaded the scoring efforts for the Chargers with 15 points followed by Noah Nelson with 9 points. The boys squad now drops to 0-10 with the loss.

Next up for both Charger squads will be the last of the current three game home stand welcoming in Madrid tomorrow night. Girls game tips the action off beginning at 6:00 pm followed by boys tip off at 7:30 pm.
