Scranton Welcome SignThere was extensive damage, but no one was hurt from a home fire in Scranton Tuesday.

The Scranton Fire Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s office responded to the fire at the home of Doyle Roberts at 900 Stanton Street in Scranton at 6:45am.

Fire Chief Doug Duff tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he could see flames coming from the kitchen area of the two-story home when he arrived on scene. Firefighters worked quickly to put out the flames and contain the fire to the kitchen. Duff says the fire started from an electrical shortage from a wall lamp which caught the curtains on fire and spread to the kitchen cabinets. Roberts was the only occupant and he was able to get out of the home uninjured.

The kitchen sustained extensive fire damage and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.

Crews were on scene for about three hours and returned later in the day to put out part of the kitchen ceiling that was smoldering.
