20160926_181254_479The Guthrie Center City Council met Monday night.

They appointed Julie Tallman to serve on the Council. She replaces former Councilor Patrick Halsey, who resigned earlier this month when he moved to Adel.

Additionally, the Council appointed Councilor Steensen to serve as the secondary alternate to the Guthrie County Emergency Management Commission.

14492323_867916259975881_2627565683743551593_nPlus, they discussed the remodel of the future City Hall building, which is the former Guthrie County State Bank building. Councilor Nickel says he wants the City’s project to remain high priority for contractors and hopefully be completed by the end of the year.

The City also discussed nuisance properties, including a residence at 905 Grand Street, which has had its utilities turned off since 2014. The Council continues to look for ways to deal with the City’s nuisance properties while keeping costs to the City as low as possible by minimizing legal fees and the tearing down of properties, and avoid getting stuck owning numerous lots around town.

Finally, the Council heard an update on the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) water main project. Highlights of the update include noting that the contractor completing the project, Morris Enterprises. is 30% completed with the project, and over $157,000 in CDBG funds have been requested and over $161,000 in matching funds have been expended. The grant is scheduled to close out on July 31, 2018.
