greene-co-supervisors-9_26The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Chris Henning presented information about the Raccoon River water gauges and the amount of nitrites in it for the Supervisors to review. She also encouraged the Supervisors to attend the Iowa Environmental Council’s annual meeting on October 6th at the Des Moines Area Community College campus in Ankeny.

The Board then approved the 2017 fiscal year substance abuse prevention grant, combining the general assistance and the veteran services director positions and a Class C beer permit for Paton Pit Stop. The Board tentatively approved the engineer’s report for work to be done in drainage district 27 to repair a bulkhead and backfill it to correct the profile and help with erosion. The Supervisors then set November 14th as the public hearing on the project.

The Board voted 3-2 to deny a request from JEMMB Pork to waive the 14-day period for the draft permit for a hog confinement in Hardin Township. It was mentioned that both permits were issued September 19th and 21st and that the project would only gain about five days to finish building the additional site. Chair John Muir said he wasn’t comfortable accepting the request and added there wasn’t a reason that would benefit the public to waive it. Becky Sexton of Twin Lakes Environmental Services said they usually make the request to speed along their process because the crews that are used for projects leave to go back to Mexico in the fall. Supervisors Mick Burkett and Tom Contner voted in favor of it.

The Board then heard about the Beaver Creek Wind Farm project from two representatives from Mid-American Energy.
