If Adan Medina was nervous before last Friday’s game with North Polk, he certainly didn’t show it.  The senior calmly guided Perry to a come from behind 28-21 win in his first start as varsity quarterback.  Medina was transitioned to quarterback this year after playing wide receiver the past 2 years.  The coaching staff made a decision early in camp to help alleviate the learning curve for Medina.

“Football has turned to what is called RPO, run, pass, option.  We did it last year and found it was pretty difficult for a quarterback with not a lot of experience to pull off.  Under this system, the quarterback is taught to read certain players on the field and decide in a split second whether to give it to the running back or pull and throw.  This is very difficult for a high school quarterback and especially for someone like Adan who is just learning the position for the first time.  So we went back and changed our approach to a run/run look. This simplifies it for the quarterback in the fact that he is either running it or handing it off directly and everybody else has their set blocking assignments.”

Medina shined in the system rushing for 2 scores and leading the Bluejay ground game with 74 yards.

Perry will return to action Friday night at home against Nevada.  You can listen to the game on KDLS.
