Kyle TerlouwThe Jefferson Police Department recently hired a new officer.

Kyle Terlouw is from Sully, Iowa where he graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School. He then attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge for two years studying criminal justice. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology/criminology from the University of Iowa this past spring.

He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why he wanted to go into law enforcement for his career.

“Just something I wanted to do since I was a kid. (I’m) Trying to go federal eventually one day and need to start on a state level and Jefferson seemed like a beautiful community to start that. I did a little bit of private security along the way for Warren Buffet out in Omaha. So I’m just trying to further this and hit the ground running.”

Police Chief Mark Clouse says the position became open after their newly hired officer, Michael Stofer, was conditionally hired by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.

Terlouw will attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy next spring to be a fully certified officer. He started on Friday with the department.

Kyle is the son of Doug and Lori Terlouw.
