Relay Chair Peg Raney says everything that was raised at their main event on April 23rd went directly to the American Cancer Society. She points out that it was due to all the generous donations, from the food for the barbecue, to using the Greene County Community Center, t-shirts, printing and advertising that helped in their venture to provide funds for cancer research.

There were 13 relay teams that raised a total of $17,422. The top team was Home State Bank’s Team Sharon Towers which raised $5,618. Sponsorships brought in $12,250, the silent auction raised a record of $5,924, Color Out Cancer 5K collected $2,597, the luminaria sales raised $1,075, the free-will community barbecue added $1,462 and other general donations were another $1,200.

Next year’s event will once again be held at the community center in Jefferson and it is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd.

Raney encourages anyone who wants to help with next year’s event to be apart of their leadership committees. Contact her at 386-2797.
