IMG_7834The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

At the meeting, a resident talked with the Supervisors about her work to bring a wedding venue to the area over the past year.  She says she needs to purchase property for this business and has come across a lot of inconsistencies with the Planning and Zoning Commission.  She stated that neighbors in the area she wanted to purchase property from have opposed her plan and therefore Planning and Zoning hasn’t approved it.  The Board thanked her for her interest and input but were able to take no formal action.

Payroll change notices were then approved as presented, followed by more discussion on the proposed public safety facility.  The talk started by Board Chairman Mark Hanson recapping what has been discussed before and what questions and concerns the Board have.  Citizens Group Chairman Mark Powell said their goal is to make the County a safe place to live and work.  He said they acknowledge that the proposed referendum is larger than what has been brought before the voters, and rejected, in he past. The Citizens Group has requested at least six months to be able to educate the public about the issue, prior to the referendum vote.  Architect Jerry Purdy with Design Alliance shared a timeline for the proposed project with an option to have the facility go out for an August bid in 2017.  September will be spent putting together draw up blueprints and put together a plan for the facility. Following a motion from Supervisor Brad Golightly and a second from Supervisor Kim Chapman the Board unanimously approved moving forward with a May bond referendum, which will not include the second jail pod.

A public hearing in regards to the final plat for Westwood Oaks plat 2 was then held.  Planning and Zoning Administrator Murray McConnel says this is for lot line adjustments to take into account some physical features in the area.  Following the hearing the plat was approve unanimously.

The Board then heard details on the fifth change order for three aspects of the norther campus project.  This will add $332 to the cost of the project, payable to Edge Commercial.  The Board approved the change order as presented.

Next the Supervisors discussed the farm lease between the County and Des Moines Area Community College.  This is for property out by the old County farm, or the newly renovated human services campus.  An open house for the farm and the campus is tentatively scheduled for October. The Board approved the updated lease agreement as presented.

Finally, fiscal year 2017 appropriations were also approved as presented.
