ss_Warren_Cultural_Center_Exterior_Dusk_West_Elevation_OriginalA play about Adair County during World War II opens tonight at the Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield.

Playwright John Busbee says he used old Adair County newspapers, pictures and other artifacts to write “Bonds at Home”, the second show in a trilogy. The show is being performed by a local acting group, The Cumberland Rose Players.

Busbee tells Raccoon Valley Radio he was recruited to write the plays.  “It started about three years ago when I got a call from Linda Sidey, who had been in touch with Humanities Iowa. She was looking for someone to take the Sidey Collection and the archives of the Adair County Free Press and turn it into a play based in World War II. The Executive Director of Humanities Iowa, Chris Rossi, said ‘here’s a list of people, but this is the guy you probably want’, referring to me.”

The play opens with a dinner theatre tonight at 6 p.m., with subsequent shows taking place Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 2 p.m. Busbee will tell us more about the production today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
