The Jefferson community lost their fire chief earlier this week.

Chief Randy Love passed away unexpectedly in his home Sunday, July 17th.

He served on the fire department for 21 years and was fire chief for the last seven years. Several firefighters and other surrounding community fire departments all said they remembered Love as the kind of person who responded to anything, whether it be a fire or if someone needed help. Assistant Fire Chief Dean Promes hopes to carry on Love’s legacy in that matter with the department.

During Love’s funeral service on Thursday, a tribute was made over law enforcement’s radio of the “Last Call” to bring chief love home. Following the service, a procession line traveled from the fire station, south on Highway 4 to the Greene and Guthrie County line, where it continued onto Carson, Iowa where Love was buried.

He was 56 years-old.
