Jefferson Police BadgeA Jefferson man faces several charges for two incidents Thursday.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says at 2:26am Thursday, an officer responded to a call of a reported assault in the 400 block of South Pinet Street. The female victim told the officer that she got into an argument with 24 year-old Nicholas Anthony Balderas. It led to him allegedly grabbing and shoving her to the ground and then slamming the back of her head against the porch steps. She was taken to Greene County Medical Center for her injuries. Balderas left the residence before the officer’s arrival. He is being charged with a Class D Felony for third or subsequent offense for domestic abuse assault.

Later that day, an anonymous call was made to the police department at 8:40pm at 507 North Elm Street, where Balderas was said to be at the Dairy Queen. The officer knew that Balderas had two arrest warrants from Guthrie County for failure to appear for traffic violations and spoke to Balderas. The suspect allegedly ran through the business and the officer followed on foot. However, the officer lost Balderas near the overpass bridge. He was later charged with a simple misdemeanor for interference with official acts.

Clouse notes that they’ve requested two arrest warrants on the charges for Balderas, which are expected to be filed with the magistrate later today.
