Tesa BinnsA Jefferson woman was sentenced to probation for a March incident.

According to court documents, 20 year-old Tesa Renee Binns had her 730-day jail sentenced suspended and placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to two serious misdemeanors for fourth degree criminal mischief and assault on a peace officer.

The charges stem from a traffic stop in the 100 block of South Pinet Street on March 10th. The male driver was cooperative when an officer stopped the vehicle for a broken tail light. However, Binns got out of the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. Binns became non compliant after several of attempts by the officer were made to have her return to the vehicle. A struggle ensued as she was being handcuffed. Once in custody, Binns caused damage to the patrol vehicle’s back door.

She was originally charged with a felony for criminal mischief and three aggravated misdemeanors for assault, interference with official acts and simple misdemeanors for possession of alcohol under 21, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

She was also ordered to pay close to $2,000 in fines, surcharges, victim restitution and court costs.
