Greene County is 0-2 this season in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball vs. Gilbert with an 8-7 loss on the road three weeks ago and a 4-3 loss in Jefferson at Allensworth Field on Friday night. The Rams were down 4-0 after four, but scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh to make it a one run game. The contest ended with the Rams stranding runners at second and third bases. The Tigers improve to 12-10 overall and 9-4 in HOIAC action, while the Rams had their three game winning streak stopped and are now 6-13 overall and 3-9 in league play. The contest was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Sophomore Wade Adcock had his best varsity pitching outing, allowing four runs, three earned in 6-1/3 innings. He walked one and fanned four while scattering 10 hits, eight of those singles. Adcock went into the game with an earned run average above nine runs per game, but lowered that on Friday night. Senior Reid Lamoureux relieved and got the last two outs in the seventh.

Greene County had three of its six his in the seventh. Two were bunt singles by junior Logan Lansman and senior Tyler Beger. Lansman scored on sophomore Tom Gannon’s bloop hit to left to make it 4-3. Runners were at second and third, with one out but the Rams would score no more. Skylar Poppion was the winning pitcher and Garrett picked up the save. Beger had two hits and one run batted in, with a single and RBI for Gannon, and Chase Stoline, who was also hit twice with pitches. Austin Delp singled in the second inning for the first Greene County hit of the game.

The Rams play twice today at Carroll Stadium in the Kuemper Catholic tournament. First up are the Kuemper Knights at 10 a.m., then it’s the Rams and Carroll High at 4 p.m.

Greene County softball plays in the South Hamilton Tournament, facing South Hardin (Eldora) in Stanhope in game one this morning.
