Jefferson Yard Waste SiteJefferson residents are reminded of a few outdoor ordinances for the spring through summer months.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says their lawn ordinance goes into effect when grass is eight inches or more. The City will notify the property owner once to mow it and if there’s no attempt to mow, then the City will mow it for them and charge the owner $130 per hour with a one-hour minimum. Palmer also asks that residents be mindful to not let grass clippings onto the street.

“Please try to keep the clippings out of the curb and gutter because that goes right down the storm sewer. Try to blow it back into the yard or sweep it out if you can. Over the years, people have been very, very good about that. It’s taken a lot of the pressure off of the storm sewer system when that grass is out of there.”

He also reminds residents that the yard waste dump site is open all year at Daubendiek Park. Items that can be dropped off include grass clippings, leaves and brush. Palmer adds that if you see any lumber or regular garbage at the yard waste site, to remove it yourself if you can because if the Department of Natural Resources sees it as a regular garbage dump site, it will be closed down permanently.
