lightningWith some scattered thunderstorms passing through the area this week, it’s important to remember how to remain safe when lightning is in the sky.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says just because the storm has passed you, doesn’t mean the danger of lightning is gone. “There’s no rationale as to whether lightning is in front of the storm or behind it. It depends on what the electrical charges are in the earth and in the air, and how the storm pulls the electrical charge upwards from the earth.”

Whenever severe weather threatens Guthrie, Dallas or Greene counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live, wall-to-wall coverage until the weather drops below severe levels or moves out of the area.
