new opportunitiesAs we’ve reported, New Opportunities has launched a new mentoring program in Guthrie County.

Coordinator Regina Angandja explains the purpose of the program. “Basically, mentoring is for any child to have a fun friend, or big brother or sister. Our program used to be called ‘Big Brothers/Big Sisters’, but we have since then changed the name and gone away from such a big organization to a small, rural area.”

She adds that it’s easy for adults to become mentors. “Fill out an application and send that in. Once they undergo the background check, they will have an in-person, in-home interview with me, the mentoring coordinator, then after that we will talk about the kind of child they would like to be matched with.”
