Menlo Fire Department officials report that one of the cabinet-making buildings owned by the Sargent family was heavily damaged by the blaze. The building is expected to be a complete loss.

Menlo Fire & Rescue was assisted by the Casey Fire Department, Stuart Fire & Rescue, Guthrie and Adair County Sheriff’s offices, Iowa State Patrol and the City of Menlo.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Nobody was injured in the fire. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries after they slipped on the ice.
