Guthrie-ISU-Ext-Guthrie-County-Fair-1-4-SkyThe passing of the Thanksgiving holiday means that many families will soon put up their live Christmas Trees.

Guthrie County Extension reminds residents that you can make use of your tree after the holidays are over. Office Coordinator Vicki Frohling says it’s possible to plant your Evergreen tree in your yard after its indoor use. This is done by first digging a hole for your tree and placing the excess soil somewhere where it won’t freeze. Next, fill the hole with straw and cover it with a tarp. On a mild winter day, remove the straw and plant the tree. Finally, water the location well and mulch it to prevent the soil from freezing.
