Greene County Community CenterDuring the holidays, like Thanksgiving, it can be tough to find time to exercise to help lose those extra pounds that we gained.

However, there are some simple, easy ways to get your heart rate up and improve your overall health.  Certified Personal Trainer and Wellness and Aquatic Coordinator for Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department Simone Lang says just 15 to 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise can help improve blood flow, loosen joints and muscles, burn extra calories and help with your mental wellbeing.

“We see a lot of maybe depression in the United States in general and with the holiday season.  Maybe that’s compounded a little bit with maybe guilt from eating too much or the overindulgences.  But that’s a part of life that we deal with.  We’re all busy, but I think 15 to 20 (minutes) stretches that out a little bit.  I gets the heart rate elevated (and) positive endorphins flowing through the body.  We can carve out that small amount of time for our wellbeing.”

He suggests body weight resistance exercises like squats and walking up and down stairs.  You can also do stabilization exercises like the plank and utilizing stretching movements as well.  Lang also recommends finding other exercises on Youtube to be more creative.
