rock hungerYear two of Rock Hunger in Dallas County wrapped up Friday.

The annual food drive celebrates the rivalry between the Perry and Adel De Soto Minburn high schools while collecting items for our local food pantries.

Organizer Dave Wright with the Perry Lions Club says numbers were down a bit this year but together they were able to collect 1,400 pounds of food and $350 in cash donations.  He says the Lions Club will likely meet with the high school’s Bluejay Congress to evaluate the drive and make some changes before doing it again next year.

Even though ADM beat Perry in the football game Friday night and gets to keep the river rock trophy, Wright says everyone wins when food is collected for those in need.

If you didn’t contribute to the Rock Hunger efforts, he encourages you to still give.

“It’s something that people should think about doing all the way through the year because the need is there all year long, not necessarily just at the time when you have a (food) drive.”

Donations can be dropped off year round at the Perry Food Pantry, located inside New Opportunities at the Crossroads Church.
