The company was founded in Adair in 1976 by Charlie Schafer and manufactures many high quality products used to conserve water, improve water quality, reduce flooding, minimize soil erosion and provide other agronomic benefits to farmers. During the factory tour Congressman Young noted that Agri Drain’s industry is especially relevant with Des Moines Water Works’ lawsuit which alleges drainage tiles in Sac, Buena Vista and Calhoun Counties of moving high amounts of nitrates from farm fields into the Raccoon River, a drinking water source of approximately 500,000 residents of the Des Moines metro.

Agri Drain’s Marketing and Communications Manager Lisa Newby says the company was honored to have the Congressman tour their facility. “As well as knowing that Agri Drain has products that can provide a solution to help with the water quality focus that we have going on right now. We really appreciate him coming on site to learn more about us.”

Agri Drain employs 47 individuals, many of which are from Adair or other nearby communities.
