Greene County Supervisors 8_3The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.

County Zoning and Sanitation Tim Healy presented the Board with two proposals for hog confinements.  One is for SNA Finishers to build a new confinement in Paton Township and the other is for an expansion in Franklin Township for Birton Davis.  Public hearings will be scheduled at a later date.

Another discussion took place about establishing a countywide ordinance prohibiting engine brakes.  Last week, the Supervisors decided to create the ordinance so that law enforcement had authority to deal with violators.  Monday’s discussion was about setting a curfew on the ordinance.  The Board agreed to set it from 10pm to 6am.  A public hearing will be set once the proper language for the ordinance is finalized.

The Board then approved a consent agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) for drainage district 114.  County Drainage Clerk Michelle Fields said the DOT is going to replace a bridge near where the drainage district is located.  However, no work will be done on the drainage district.

The Supervisors reviewed an application for an industrial tax exemption for the new Bauer Built Manufacturing plant in Paton.  No formal action took place.

Fields also talked about upgrades and improvements needed to follow current Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.  She noted that some of the improvements will cost money such as installing locks on doors and securing windows in the building.  The Board suggested prioritizing the items so they can look at their options of what needs to be fixed immediately.

Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave an update.  He said the Secondary Roads Department will help the Greene County Fair Board tear down their sheep buildings at the fairgrounds and haul away the debris for construction of two new buildings.  No bids have been received to pave the first two crossings on the Raccoon River Valley Trail starting from the trailhead in Jefferson.  The Conservation Board wants the project done by Pedaler’s Jamboree on Labor Day weekend, but Weiss believed it won’t be done by that date.  He was also looking to hire a part time employee for Secondary Roads to help with maintenance of the gravel roads.
