scranton welcomeThe public is invited to a fundraiser in Scranton later this month.

Scranton Community Center Advisory Board member Dawn Rudolph says following their fourth annual Gary McDonald Tractor Ride will be a new fundraiser called the Backyard Cookout Contest on August 22nd.  The cookout will include a People’s Choice Pork Loin Challenge and a Best Burger Challenge.  All proceeds will help to improve the community center.  She talks about why their Board wanted to do a new fundraiser.

“Well, we wanted something to offer the people when they got back from the tractor ride.  And then, we just heard from other people that cookoffs are kind of becoming a popular event, so then we thought, well, let’s give it a try.”

Setup for the cookout is anytime after 7am.  There is a $50 entry fee, which will help cover the cost of a pork loin and three-pounds of hamburger.  Rudolph adds that for just $5, each participant can also enter a side dish or dessert contest.  Smokers, charcoal or gas grills are allowed.  The pork loin contest will begin at 4pm, followed by the burger contest, which will be judged by a panel of six people.  Awards will be given to the top three in the pork loin and burger challenges and cash prizes will be awarded for the side dish and dessert competitions.  Deadline to sign up is by August 14th.

The tractor ride will start at 9am and will leave from the community center and head to Grand Junction and back to the community center.  Rules and more information can be found on their Facebook page by clicking HERE.
