For the first time since 2008 a Jefferson-based varsity baseball team has clinched a winning season. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Greene County Rams are 16-9 overall and 12-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play with a 4-0 win on Friday night in Prairie City vs. PCM.

Senior Colton Fitzpatrick went the distance on the pitching rubber, allowing no runs on four hits. He walked two and struck four batters out. Draic Whipple had three of Greene County’s hits as he doubled twice, singled once, and drove in a pair of runs. Alex Rasmussen singled and had one RBI, while Jordan Challen, Dylan McConnell, and Jordan Hostetler each had a base hit.

The Rams scored three times in the second inning and once in the fifth. Both team were charged with one error.

Greene County plays Monday in Jefferson vs. Saydel (Des Moines) on KG98 at approximately 7:15 p.m.
