There is a delicate balance between how much weight to gain without compromising speed and agility.  Former Perry linebacker Kane Seeley has seen both sides of the fence as he gets ready for this 4th year on the Iowa State campus.  Seeley was asked to gain a lot of weight his first years on campus but was presented with a different focus this past spring in anticipation of the 2015 opener against UNI.

“My weight has really stayed the same this year which I’m fine with and the coaches are comfortable with.  My emphasis was on improving speed and strength.  My strength numbers have increased in a number of areas and we recently recorded our times for various quickness drills like the 10 yard sprint and my numbers improved in each of them.  I also showed improvement in the agility areas such as the vertical and broad jump.  So all in all, my mass is roughly the same as last year but I have increased both my speed and strength.  It was a good offseason.”

Seeley will be looking to retain the starting linebacker spot he held for a good portion of last season.  Iowa State’s first game will be against UNI and all of the Cyclone games can be heard on the All New 99.7 FM and KDLS 1310 AM.
