When the baseball season begins in 2016, the West Central Valley Wildcats varsity team will be without ace pitcher Bryce Kearns for the first time in half a decade. The Iowa Central Community College-bound superstar pitcher was easily the best pitcher in the West Central Conference this year, probably the best pitcher in Class 2A baseball this season and quite possibly the best high school pitcher in the state of Iowa. His .25 earned run average and .112 opponent’s batting average were the best in the state this year, among pitchers who had thrown as many innings as Kearns. Perhaps the most noticeable stat for West Central Valley fans, though, is that over the past two seasons nearly 2/3rds of their wins, 9 out of 15, have come off the throwing arm of Bryce Kearns.
