The Perry Jayette softball team earned a split on the road Thursday night losing to Ballard 6-0 in game one but defeating the Bombers in game two 9-4.  Perry pounded out 12 hits in the nightcap and built an early 7-0 lead after the first 3 innings.  Grace Marburger delivered the big blow with a three-run triple highlighting a six-run 3rd inning.  Sidney Vancil, Brooke Huntington and Johanna Diw each added RBI singles in the big frame.  Emma Olejniczak and Huntington led the offense finishing with 3 hits each.  Rachel Kinney added 2 more RBI’s to her recent surge while- Diw chipped in 2 hits as well.

Vancil picked up the win for Perry allowing 2 earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.  She ran into trouble in the fourth inning but Emma Olejniczak was able to come in and put out the fire.  After pitching all 7 innings in the first game, the sophomore tossed 3 2/3 scoreless relief to earn the save.  She struck out 4 while scattering just 2 hits.

In game one, Ballard took advantage of 5 Perry errors in crusing to the shut out victory.  The Bombers managed only 6 hits compared to Perry’s 4.  Olejniczak was strong inside the circle but could not work around the numerous mistakes in the field.  She yielded only 1 earned run in seven innings.  The sophomore also had 2 of Perry’s 4 hits.  Kate Whelchel and Kinney added the other hits for the Jayettes.

Perry has one more game left on the regular season schedule before Regionals open up next Thursday.  The Jayettes will celebrate senior night Tuesday when they host Pella at the PAC.  You can listen to the game on KDLS.
