In less than a month, Guthrie County residents will be at the polls deciding how County Supervisors are elected. Currently, Supervisors are elected solely by the voters in their assigned district. A committee of bipartisan, private citizens is suggesting that supervisors be elected from those same districts but that they be voted on at large, meaning by all eligible voters in the County instead of just those in their district. Absentee ballots for the August 4th special election are now available at the Auditor’s office inside the courthouse.

One of Iowa’s most famous blues bands is coming to Greenfield this month. Bob Dorr and the Blue Band are members of the Iowa Rock n’ Roll Music Association Hall of Fame and will be at the Warren Cultural Center July 25th. Executive Director Ken Sidey calls the band an ‘Iowa institution’ and says it’s an amazing opportunity to see a group that’s opened for B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, performed at over 30 Iowa State Fairs and played on Memphis’ legendary Beale Street. The band’s performance at the Warren Cultural Center is sponsored by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council. For more information, call Sidey at 641-343-7337.
