Greene County High School Activities Director Dean Lansman was at a ball park a lot this summer, and he liked what he saw from the Rams on both the softball and baseball diamond. The two varsity teams were a collective 51-18, among the best summers ever for victories and winning percentage for Jefferson-based softball and baseball teams. In addition, the softball Rams under head coach Tom Kennedy won the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference title by four games and the baseball Rams tied for second place in the conference. The 32 softball wins were the most in the history of the program for a single season and the 19 baseball victories were the most in head coach Mark Sawhill’s 13 seasons at the helm.

“I was very impressed by both teams. They not only did the student-athletes represent themselves and their teams in a very sportsmanlike manner, they also are outstanding young men and women, and very good players! The seniors, and there were seven in softball and six in baseball, will certainly be missed, and we appreciate all their contributions to their respective programs,” Coach Lansman stated.
