One night after seeing a 23-game home diamond winning streak come to an end, the fourth ranked Greene County softball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 over CMB (Maxwell) in a make up game Friday night in Jefferson. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team improved to 26-6 overall and 16-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference with the victory while the Raiders lost for the fifth time in conference games. The Rams clinched the HOIAC title on Wednesday of this week.

Abby Applegate hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth for CMB, but Emma Saddoris countered with a solo shot, her fourth this season, in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1 after four innings. Winning pitcher Marissa Promes helped her cause at the plate with a two-run sixth inning double to put the Rams up 3-2. However, CMB loaded the bases in the seventh and had just one out when Saddoris caught a line drive at second base, then threw to Hannah Onken at first to double off a base runner and end the game.

Promes allowed two earned runs in seven innings on five hits and a walk. She struck out four batters. Abbey Kahler took the pitching loss.

The Rams had eight hits on the night with two singles from both Kayla Mobley and Onken. Marissa Promes added a single to the two-run double, and Hannah Promes had a base hit.

Greene County closes the regular season on Monday with a make up game in Nevada at approximately 7:30 p.m. before opening Class 3A regional tournament play on July 8 at 7 p.m. in Jefferson vs. Pocahontas Area.
