Greene County and Paton-Churdan student athletes took advantage of the sunny weather at Drake Stadium in Des Moines and performed well at the State Track and Field Meet on Thursday.

Greene County freshman Megan Durbin led the way with a second place finish in the Class 3A girls high jump with a jump of five-feet and four-inches.  She was just one-inch off from being a state champion.  Greene County’s girls shuttle hurdle relay team qualified for Saturday’s final with an eighth place finish in the preliminary round.

Other results from Thursday include Hannah Onken’s 19th place in discus, Nadia Fisher receiving 18th in the high jump, Alex Rasmussen with a 14th place finish in discus, Olivia Hansen with a 10th place finish in the preliminaries for the 200-meter dash and did not qualify for the finals, the shuttle hurdle relay team did not qualify for finals with a 17th place finish along with Max Neese who did not qualify for the finals in the 200-meter dash after a 14th place finish in the preliminary round.  Paton-Churdan’s Jake Carey received 21st place in the 400-meter dash.

Several more events continue today at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.  Greene County will compete in the girls 100-meter hurdles, the 4×200-meter relay, long jump, 400-meter hurdles and the 4×100-meter relay.  The boys events includes shot put, 400-meter low hurdles, distance medley relay, 4×100-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay.  Paton-Churdan’s Jake Carey will compete in the 800-meter run later today.
