The ADM baseball Tigers squeaked out a 3-2 win in their season opener Wednesday at Earlham, pushing across the winning run on a passed ball late in the game.

Senior Sam Kornstad got on with a one-out double in the sixth and scored on the passed ball four batters later with two outs and the bases loaded for Joe Sloss.

Senior Ethan Herron (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Chase Eddie with five dominant one-hit innings, striking out nine and walking none. Kornstad paced ADM’s offense with a pair of hits and ADM’s lone RBI on a run-scoring double in the second. Jake Sloss chipped in, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

Earlham scored twice in the first inning, taking advantage of a shaky start from Eddie, who needed 39 pitches to labor through the opening frame. He settled down in his second and final inning of work, and Earlham managed just the one hit the rest of the way.

The Tigers have their second straight road game with a 7:30 p.m. contest Thursday night at I-35 Truro.
