perry policeA standoff situation in Perry ended peacefully after around four and a half hours Sunday evening.

According to the Perry Police Department, it started around 5pm when officers were called to the 2600 block of Merengo Drive to assist with a civil matter in regards to a domestic situation.  Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the male in the residence and while he answered the door initially, he later retreated back into the home.

Concerned for their safety, and that of the suspect due to a possible medical condition, officers from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Metro Special Reaction Team responded to assist at the scene.  The subject failed to respond to several attempts to contact him from officers but later began communicating via email.  After several conversations, officers felt secure in approaching the house around 9:30pm.  Once they entered the home, the male contact assured officers he was not in any medical emergency and the scene was cleared.

No one was injured in the incident and no criminal charges will be filed at this time.

15th and 16th Streets were barricaded off between Summer Meadows and Willis Avenue while officers handled the situation.  The identity of the male involved has not been released.
