perry schoolsAs we previously reported, Perry Elementary is again being recognized for successfully implementing the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system.

Elementary School Counselor Andrea Brandner says it has been a three year process just to get to this point.

“We have to go through a school site visit where (the Department of Education) checks off what we are doing and making sure that it’s all compliant with PBIS rules and regulations.  This is to make sure we’re doing the proper tests, the proper assessments and that we’re positively enforcing kids.  For example, one of the things they are going to be looking for is that we are positively recognizing student’s behaviors more than we are giving negative consequences.”

We’ll have more with Brandner about the award and the PBIS program on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS.
